If you have any type of data stored on tape and no longer have the hardware to recover the files then allow me to redirect you to this earlier data tape recovery blog post. Here are two examples where there is a requirement to retrieve old archived computer data from tape storage. This is sometimes referred to as eDiscovery.
- We have a DAT DDS3 TAPE with a backup made by BACKUP utility under DEC ALPHA DS10 running OPENVMS 7.3, and we want to get the backup file from the TAPE to hard drive on PC but we do not have access of TAPE reader.
We just want to get the backup file, i.e one file of size 3,4 GB
We would like if your are able to do that and for what price.
- I have 1 or 2 quarter inch tape cartridges containing a CPIO (or perhaps tar) archive from a 1990’s Unix workstation while at college. How much would it cost to transfer their contents to DVD or USB stick, assuming they are still readable? I’m located near Chiswick.
